Breastfeeding is part and parcel of your labour and birth, because within the space of an hour after your labour and birth, you can be breastfeeding. Therefore, being prepared is very important.
A wise midwife said that "Breastfeeding is as natural as walking, not as breathing". Therefore, its something that is instinctive but needs to be practiced and comes with trial and error. In fact it takes around 6 weeks for you and your little one to establish that breastfeeding relationship.
How well you are prepared for breastfeeding will greatly impact your experience of your little one in those early days. Knowing how to assist your baby, knowing what you need to do to support yourself, is key!
I have been breastfeeding my little one for over 18 months and I have trained and am certified as a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter, with a local charity called the Goodwin Trust. Therefore, I can support mums in and around my area. But it also puts me in a position to support you. With that I will always encourage you to hold of local support in your area. If need, call a Breastfeeding Consultant if you are not getting on with the basic information.
As part of the various Session Styles, I will do a breastfeeding session. We will get practical, so grab a teddy or a rolled up towel! This has also been recorded and I make this available for free right here!
I will cover, latching & attaching, hand expression, pumping, breast care and even Colostrum Harvesting. Colostrum Harvesting is something that is done prior to your labour. Please check with your midwife before you try Colostrum harvesting.
